George Rex

April 30, 1939 — August 26, 2022

George Rex, age 83, of Stover passed away Friday, August 26, 2022 at his home.
It was on the 30th day of April in 1939 that George M. and Lora Alice (Martin) Rex welcomed their baby boy, George Franklin, into their home in Moniteau County.
On June 21, 1959 he was united in marriage to Elaine Lorenz at the Pleasant Green Methodist Church. Throughout their marriage, George lovingly referred to Elaine as PeeWee.
George was a hard worker. He worked for Cargill as a hatchery manager and retired after thirty-eight years of service. He was known as "Mr. Clean" because he was always cleaning and liked doing it. When he retired he was given a broom because he was known as the broom man.
He was an avid collector. Earlier in life he liked collecting Kaiser Cars and coins; most recently he started collecting toy tractors. He liked hunting and fishing. In his younger years he and the Martin boys were always working on hot rods. George was a Ford guy. His prized possessions were his Shelby GT500 and Boss 429.
The most important thing in George's life was his family. He was always giving PeeWee a hard time and he loved spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids.
Left to carry on George's legacy is his wife, Elaine, of Stover; his son, Wayne Rex and wife CharLa of Tipton; his daughter, Kathy Rex of Stover; four grandchildren, Travis Burke and wife Kara, Lacy Wehmeyer and husband Thatcher, Amanda Shewmaker and husband Josh, and Brandon Rex and wife Maranda; nine great grandchildren, Ryker Rex, Brynlee Burke, Chase Tuning, Karch Knipp, Jett Knipp, Bella Knipp, Madi Shewmaker, Aiden Rex, and Everett Rex; two brothers, Dwayne Rex and wife Karen of Lee's Summit, Lynn Rex and wife Beverly of California; and one sister-in-law, Joyce Rex of Boonville. He was also known as Papa George to his bonus daughter Becky Mueller and friend Clint Birdsong.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Dylan Rex and Brittany Rex; two brothers, William and Roy Rex; and one sister, Sara LaVern.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at the Scrivner-Page-Dady Funeral Home in Stover. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Cemetery.
