William David “Billy” Peoples, 70, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021 at his home.
He was born February 8, 1950 in Syracuse, a son of Arthur Douglas and Alma Lee (Combs) Peoples. On August 26, 1972 he married Barbara Sue Doza who survives of the home.
Billy attended Otterville High School. After leaving school he worked construction as a Labor foreman until 1973. Billy became self-employed doing plumbing, electrical and remodeling houses. He also worked with a local business building houses and various other jobs. In 1996 he went to work as a Corrections Officer at the Boonville Correctional Facility, retiring in 2013.
Billy enjoyed fishing, playing pool with friends, playing cards, having fish fries, and drinking beer while socializing. He never met a person he couldn’t talk to about serious subjects or just nonsense.
Family was important to him, and he leaves behind his wife Barbara; two daughters, Miranda Peoples of Syracuse, MO, Christina (Tony) Gutierrez of Syracuse, MO; one son Michael (Elizabeth) Peoples of Columbia, MO; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters, Blenda O’Brien of Tipton, MO, Virginia (Carl) Hibdon of Tipton, MO, Dixie (Albert) Reigel of Jefferson City, MO; one brother, Mitchel Peoples of Tipton, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and a grandson.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Olive Branch Cemetery.
The family is requesting no flowers and instead suggests memorial contributions to Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Olive Branch Cemetery and may be left in the care of the funeral home.
