William Lee “Bill” Marriott, age 90, of Versailles, passed away, shortly before midnight, Sunday, June 24, 2018, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born November 27, 1927, in St. Joseph a son of George Thomas and Viola Bowers Marriott.
Bill married Jane Barnett and to this union one daughter Shirley was born. On November 30, 1963 in Miami, Oklahoma, Bill married Posie Kreglinger Alpers, who preceded him in death July 29, 1991. When Bill married Posie she had Paul Louis and Lorna and a few years later they had David and Robyn. In 1998, Bill married HelenaTremblay Jackson in Stover. Helena survives at their home.
He served his country in the United States Army, receiving his honorable discharge in February of 1947. His service in Japan led to him joining the VFW Post 2442 in Eldon, where he was a life member.
For most of Bill’s life he ran heavy equipment; clearing areas for future construction. He enjoyed working with his hands and being outdoors. In later years he and Helena owned a trailer park between Stover and Versailles.
Bill was an avid horseman who enjoyed the many hours he could spend riding throughout the countryside on trail rides and enjoying the competition of showing horses at horse shows. He also looked forward to visiting with friends at the local coffee shop; swapping stories and keeping up with local news.
In addition to his wife Helena, he is survived by four children, Paul Louis Alpers of Versailles; Lorna Hutchison and husband Brad of Jefferson City; David Marriott of Missouri and Robyn Marriott of Jefferson City; four step children, David Jackson Jr. and wife Beverly of Stover; Curtis Jackson and wife Jennifer of Laurie; Dannette Jackson of Kansas City and Corinne Smallwood of Kentucky; one brother, Harold Merriott of Missouri; nineteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren; several step grandchildren and great grandchildren, along with other relatives and friends.
Bill was also preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Shirley Schroeder.
In keeping with his wishes he was cremated. A Memorial Reception will be held Saturday, June 30, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles with A Time of Sharing beginning at 2:00 p.m. Military honors will immediately follow the service at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be in the Ritchie Cemetery south of Versailles.
