Wilbur Paul "Rip" Gordon, age 83, of Raytown, Missouri, died Thursday, July 2, 2009, at the Kansas City VA Medical Center in Kansas City.
He was born February 20, 1926, in Russellville, Missouri, a son of Enos and Emma Zink Gordon. On February 7, 1948, in Kansas City, he was united in marriage to Loraine Westgard and she survives at their home.
"Rip" was an Army veteran, serving his country in World War II.
He was a warehouseman for 30 years at the Great A&P Tea Company in Kansas City. Following his retirement he worked as a handyman in the Kansas City area for more than 25 years.
When his health allowed he enjoyed fishing, hunting quail and rabbits. He also looked forward to the times he could go mushroom hunting with his brother-in-law, Gerald Steenbergen. He was an accomplished craftsman, who enjoyed working with wood.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law Craig and Charlotte Gordon of Wentzville, Missouri; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Don and Viola Gordon of Sedalia, Missouri and Jack Gordon of Kansas City, Kansas; one sister, Arnelia "Nicky" Amos of Russellville; two grandsons, Cliff Gordon of Wentzville and Clay Gordon of Blue Springs, Missouri, also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends..
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Arthur, Earman, and Delmar Gordon and two sisters, Ruth Benson and Alyce Yeast.
Services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 7, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville with friends received from 12:30 P.M. until service time. Burial, with military funeral honors, will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Eugene, Mo. Memorial contributions are suggested to Missouri Baptist Children's Home, 20509 South State Route J, Peculiar, MO 64078.
