Wesley "Wes" L. Seyler

Wesley L. "Wes" Seyler, age 95, of Versailles, Missouri passed away Friday, May 2, 208, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.
He was born August 26, 1912, in Alma, Nebraska, a son of Lewis Charles and Sara Pearl Walker Seyler. On August 15, 1943, at the Hyde Park Methodist Church in Chicago, Illinois, Wes married Muriel A. Austin and she preceded him in death March 23, 2006.
He attended Prairie Dog School in rural Alma, and graduated from Alma High School in 1930. He attended Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska and graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education.
Wes was an Air Force veteran, serving his country from 1941-1944, in World War II, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He was employed as a radio and farm broadcaster for WIBW Radio station in Topeka, Kansas. He and his wife later owned and operated Gardenland in Lawrence, Kansas until their retirement.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence. He had also been active in the Jayhawk Kiwanis, in Lawrence and was Past Lt. Governor Division II. Following his retirement, Wes helped found the Kaw Valley Bluebird Association in Lawrence. He was inducted into the Nebraska Wesleyan University Sports Hall of Fame, was the first recipient of the Kansas Soil Conservation District award and received the Kiwanian of the Year award from the Jayhawk Kiwanis.
Wes and Muriel had lived in Topeka, Oklahoma City and then in Lawrence, from 1963 until 2005, when they moved to Versailles to be near their daughter.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Michael Jackson of Versailles; two grandsons, Sean Wesley Jackson and wife Lisa and Austin Michael Jackson, three great grandchildren, Renae, Ryan and Rachelle Jackson, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, Wes was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Naomi Harding and one brother, Ernest Seyler.
A prayer service will be held Tuesday, May 6, at the Grazeland Ranch near Versailles. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 10, at the First United Methodist Church in Lawrence, with Rev. Tom Brady officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Greenwood Cemetery in Franklin, Nebraska.
In keeping with Mr. Seyler's wishes he will be cremated. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stover, Missouri or First United Methodist Church in Lawrence.
