Wesley Delmon Marriott, age 96, of Stover, passed away peacefully, Sunday morning, December 16, 2018, at his home with family by his side.
He was born December 10, 1922, on the family farm south of Stover, a son of Wesley M. and Vanity May Ziegel Marriott. On February 27, 1949, in Stover, Delmon was united in marriage to Waneta Emma Gerlt, who preceded him in death March 23, 2016.
Delmon was an Army veteran, serving his country in World War II in Southern England. While stationed overseas, he drove a truck in Germany for General Patton as part of the Red Ball Express. In December of 1945, he was honorably discharged and returned home to the family farm.
After Delmon and Waneta married, they lived in Iowa for one year before returning to Stover where he worked alongside his brother Arnold, bringing electricity to Morgan County. In 1952 he and Waneta purchased their farm where they raised their family.
In addition to being a farmer, Delmon devoted his life to serving his Lord. He was an ordained minister, serving local Missionary Baptist churches, namely Union, Richie, Locust and New Bethel. For several years he and Waneta answered the call to serve in a church in St. Joseph; making a one-way, five hour drive to meet the needs of that congregation.
In addition to serving his churches he also served on the Ritchie Cemetery Board.
He was a devoted husband, dad and grandpa, who enjoyed spending time with his family.
Delmon is survived by five children and their spouses, Kathy Emperley of Jacksonville, North Carolina; Jim and Pat Marriott of Stover; Paul and Gail Marriott of Mountain View; David and Gail Marriott of Centralia, and Carol Johnson of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Mary Marriott of Stover; fourteen grandchildren, Stephanie Emperley, Michael Marriott, Mendy Holem, Wesley Marriott, Sandra Phipps, Shelley Richison, Wade Marriott, Holli Eschbacher, Chad Marriott, Christopher Marriott, Gretchen Marriott, Chadd Johnson, Cory Johnson, and Clay Johnson, thirty-nine great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Arnold and Donald Marriott, two sisters, Ruby Marriott and Margaret Viebrock, a son-in-law, Michael Johnson and a great grandson, Lane Holem.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 22, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with Rev. Doyle Mayfield and Rev. Joe Sprague officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be in the Stover Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, December 21, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover.
