Waneta J. Mertgen, age 73, of Florence passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born February 17, 1946 on the family farm in Pyrmont a daughter of Harold and Nigel Hibdon Randall. On September 26, 1964 at St. John U.C.C. in Florence, Waneta was united in marriage to Bill Mertgen, who survives at the home.
Waneta grew up in the Pyrmont community and attended Stover High School.
She spent her time as a homemaker, busy taking care of her children.
For the past several years Waneta enjoyed going to the boat and her day wasn't complete without a good nap. Throughout her life her greatest enjoyment always remained taking care of her family and spending time with them.
In addition to her husband Bill, she is survived by three children and their spouses, LaVonda and Robert Barnett of Stover; LaVern Mertgen of Florence and Ernie and Sonya Mertgen of Florence; three siblings and their spouses, Cody and Kay Randall of Potosi, Ronald and Donna Randall of Florence, and Vickey and Walt Worthley of Stover; five grandchildren, Casey Garber, Brooklyn Wasser and husband Casey, Colt Wheeler and girlfriend Nickie Cooper, Madeline Mertgen and boyfriend Tyler Smith, and Nigel Mertgen and fiancée Haley Dickneite; seven great grandchildren, Cadon and Rowan Garber, Boden and Calyn Wasser, Jace Wheeler, Sophia and Emma Jean Smith; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Jennie Martin and Randy Randall.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the St. John UCC in Florence with Dr. Larry Gallamore officiating. Burial will be in the St John UCC Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2019 at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover.
