Virgil Clarence Meyer, 88, of Otterville passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at his residence. He was one of 8 children born to John and Birdie Meyer of Otterville.
Virgil was a graduate of Otterville High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning home he began farming. He became a carpenter and worked as a union carpenter on many projects while continuing to farm. He was proud of being the last carpenter released from the construction of the Truman Dam at Warsaw.
Virgil was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Otterville; the Carpenters Union Local 101; and a member of the Otterville American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Raymond, Ernest, Fred, Chris, and J. B. Meyer; and sister Zetta Dowdy.
He is survived by sister Sarah Dick of Otterville; sister-in-law Zelma Meyer of Sedalia; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services for Virgil Meyer will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Otterville with burial immediately following in the Smithton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday, July 1st at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of choice.
