Viola M. Holsten

Viola Mattie Holsten, age 93, of Stover, passed away Saturday morning, August 4, 2007, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.


She was born August 17, 1913, at Stover, a daughter of Henry A. and Anna Fischer Brunjes. She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Stover. Her confirmation verse was 1 Timothy 6:12, "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and has professed a good profession before many witnesses."


She was married to Arthur Holsten on December 7, 1930, at the Pyrmont Lutheran Church. Arthur preceded her in death March 4, 1994.


Viola was a homemaker, helping her husband on the farm until his retirement, when they moved to Stover. Viola was then employed as an accredited nurses aid at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover for eleven years.


She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stover. Viola enjoyed crocheting and quilt making, piecing together quilts for each of her grandchildren.


Survivors include three children, Vanita Rapp and husband James of Rockville; Mervin Holsten and wife DeLeah of Stover and Willard Holsten and wife Linda of Sedalia; twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, (number 16 is due in October and her first great-great grandchild is due in November) also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


In addition to her husband, Viola was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Herbert Brunjes and one sister, Irene Koester.


Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, August 7, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stover with Pastor Cecil Murdock officiating. Interment will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery with her grandsons and great grandsons Mark Rapp, Michael Rapp, David Holsten, Jerry Holsten, Russell Holsten, Joseph Holsten, Schuyler Holsten, Alex Holsten, Caleb Eckhoff, Codi Eckhoff, Tyler Rapp, Jamie Rapp and David Lisenby serving as casket bearers.


The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Monday, August 6, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with a prayer service at 6:00 P.M.


Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Paul Lutheran Church or the St . Paul Lutheran School.
