Vernon Silvey

Aug 11, 1943 — Oct 2, 2026

Loyd Vernon Silvey, 83, of Versailles, MO passed over to his Heavenly Home on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach, MO with his daughters by his side. He was born August 11, 1943, in Versailles to Loyd E. and Fay Lucille (James) Silvey. He was baptized at the Versailles Baptist Church on April 5, 1992.

Vernon was a “Hometown” boy, growing up and attending school in Versailles with his siblings and friends, and in 1966, he married his former wife Betty Ann Sparks, who preceded him in death in 2023. Also preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Stephen D. Silvey, a sister, Evelyn Pryor, a grandson, Dustin Silvey, and brother in-law, Larry Raines. He is survived by his daughters Holly Silvey and Fonda Michelle (Shelly) Brandt; grandson, Tim Hurtz; granddaughter, Summer Brandt; sister Fonda (Sue) Raines, brother, Charles Edward Silvey (Maureen), brother-in-law Herschel Pryor, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Vernon’s biggest passion from the time he was a child, fashioning make-believe airplanes from his mother’s clothes pins, was to be a pilot, but his passion had to take a back seat to making a living, to which he devoted 34 years to owning and operating Silvey’s Welding and Machine Shop in Versailles. His passion for working with metal also shone in his love for building and racing cars, traveling at some point to every state in the Union, reenacting American Civil War battles in his younger years, and learning everything he could about history.

He proudly served as a flight engineer in the United States Air Force and after coming home, flew intermittently delivering cargo to various small companies. He served 15 years as Chairman of the Board for his home-town airport association, served as an FAA inspector for small and experimental airplanes, and loved attending “Fly-in’s” in Wisconsin and different states whenever he could. In his later years he worked as a correction officer for the Missouri Department of Corrections in Jefferson City, held various small jobs around Versailles to keep busy, and enjoyed coffee with his friends at local restaurants.

Visitation and a Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2026, at Scrivner-Page-Dady Funeral Home in Stover, MO, followed by a private burial at the Versailles Cemetery.
