Vencil “Corky Vogt, age 78, lifelong resident of Versailles, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018, at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born October 8, 1939, in Versailles, a son of Melford W. and Velma “Tiny” Sousley Vogt. Corky was united in marriage to Emma M. Brown on February 8, 1958, in Marshall, Missouri. Emma survives at their home.
He was a 1957 graduate of Morgan County R-II High School in Versailles. He served his country in the United States Army Reserves from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1964, with the rank of Private 1st class.
He was a master carpenter by trade; working on new and remodeling construction in the Versailles community. For thirty-two years he was employed by Bill and Marion Dolstein, taking care of the Maple Apartments in Versailles.
In 1957 Corky was saved in the old Assembly of God church building located on Monroe Street in Versailles. On July 9, 2000 he was baptized in the Big Gravois Creek into the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church near Versailles; where he was a faithful member until his death.
Corky had a servant’s heart; at the time of his death he was a board member of the Morgan County Historical Society, the Versailles Cemetery Association and the Ritchie Cemetery Association. He spent countless hours assisting people throughout Versailles and would drop what he was doing to help someone in need.
When he wasn’t volunteering you could find him working in his garden or out on the lake in his boat fishing. However, his greatest enjoyment in life came from being with his family, especially the time he could spend with the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Rhonda Vogt and Rodney and Robin Vogt all of Versailles; five grandchildren and their spouses, Derek Vogt of Versailles; Ashley and Mark Garber of Versailles; Joshua Vogt of Sunrise Beach; Lindsey and Zach Wenger of Murphy, Idaho and Abby and Ryan Loganbill of Versailles and seven great grandchildren, Autumn Wenger, Lanie Garber, Kensley Garber, Evelyn Wenger, Emma Wenger, Cade Garber and Chase Loganbill, his eighth great grandchild (a boy) Rafe Loganbill is due in September. Corky is also survived by four siblings and their spouses, Calvin and Sharon Vogt of Carthage; Arlene Vogt of Eldon; Charlotte and Larry Pryor of Versailles; Janie and Steve Baumgarner of Kansas City; and special family member, Lois Vansell of Versailles; along with many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Corky was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Mark Vogt and Darrell Vogt and one sister, Darlene Croy.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles with Bro. Dennis Skinner and Bro. Joe Sprague officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be in the West Lawn Addition of the Versailles Cemetery with Bro. Gary Box giving the closing prayer.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Judes Children’s Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
