Velma Irene Shikles

Velma Irene Shikles, age 96, of the Enon community south of Russellville, died Monday evening, August 10, 2009, at the Moniteau Care Center in California.
She was born August 28, 1912, in the Spring Garden community in Miller County, a daughter of John Leroy and Margaret Melissa Bond Ackers. On March 21, 1928, Irene was united in marriage to Paul Freeman Shikles. Freeman preceded her in death June 30, 1986.
Irene worked for the Missouri Department of Revenue in Jefferson City for several years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was a faithful member of the Enon Baptist church, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible school for many years and was also active in the WMU. She enjoyed being part of the quilting group in the Enon community.
Irene is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Leroy and Betty Shikles of Boonville; one sister, Ruby Haldiman of Raytown; six grandchildren, Diana Dorian, Rick Shikles and wife Dee, Lynn Sherwood and husband John, Carol Stretz and husband Hans, Julie Friedrich and Janie Harris and husband David, eleven great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, also several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Pearl Ranabarger and Lucille Laue.
Services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, August 13, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. Interment will be in the Enloe Cemetery west of Russellville.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. Thursday, August 13, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Enon Baptist Church or the Preferred Hospice of Missouri, 1900 N. Providence Road, Suite 311, Columbia, MO 65202,
