Valeta Lorena Kipp

April 2, 1929 — November 24, 2018

Valeta Lorena Kipp, age 89, of Stover, passed away Saturday morning, November 24, 2018 at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.

She was born April 2, 1929, on the family farm near Stover, one of five daughters born to Fred and Mathilde Fischer Kipp.  Valeta was baptized April 14, 1929 and confirmed April 18, 1943, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stover.  The confirmation verse chosen was Matthew 24:13, “But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.”

She was a 1947 graduate of Stover High School.

As a young woman, Valeta was employed with the MFA in Stover until it closed.  She retired from Smithson’s, Inc. in Stover after many years of employment.

She was a lifelong, faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stover, where she sung in the church choir and taught Sunday school for many, many years.

Valeta, or “Lete” as she was called by her nieces and nephews, was an accomplished baker.  Her first venture into making weddings cakes was for her sisters’ weddings; where her talent for creating beautiful cakes led to a part time business out of her home.  Her gift to her nieces, nephews and their children was incredible birthday cakes and in time their own wedding cakes.  Not only did she design cakes for her family, but many people in the area benefited from her baking expertise.  In addition to her baking, she was known for making the Christmas candy her nieces and nephews received each year.  She was also the family Christmas stocking maker; finishing her last set of stockings within the past year.

She loved being on the home place, which recently received the distinction of being a century farm.

Survivors include one sister and two brothers-in-law, Elsie and Eldon Harms of Cole Camp and Mervin Holsten of Stover; ten nieces and nephews and their spouses, Carolyn and Mike Heimsoth, Jim and Jackie Witte, Bob Witte, Connie and Dean Eckhoff, Jerry and Cathy Holsten, David and Yvonne Holsten, Cindy and Eddie Kiesling, Keith Harms, Steve and Susan Harms and Loretta and Tom Mentzer, fifteen great nieces and nephews, seventeen great-great nieces and nephews,  along with other relatives and friends.

Valeta was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Helen Kipp, Mabel Witte and DeLeah Holsten and one brother-in-law, Raymond Witte.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stover with Pastor Gerald Kurka officiating.  Interment will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Stover.
