Thomas Lee Aydelott

May 2, 1940 — May 2, 2020

Thomas Lee Aydelott of Pilot Grove, Mo. passed away early Saturday morning, May 2, 2020 with a caring family at his side.

Tom was born exactly 80 years ago on May 2, 1940 in Troy, Mo. to W.T. and Elizabeth Aydelott. As a young man in high school, he was an accomplished baseball pitcher and was honored to sign on with the Cleveland Indians. Sadly, before that dream could be realized, Tom was in a diving accident and unable to fulfill that commitment.

In 1966, Tom moved to Boonville, Mo. and the following year he opened Tom's Standard Service Station which he owned and operated until 1984. For a couple of years he worked for Shyrock-Givens Wholesale Grocery Distributor as a salesman and then in 1986 began his career as an Investigator for the State of Missouri and the Department of Corrections until his retirement in 2002.

While living in Boonville, Tom met and married Janice L. Bader, on March 30, 1976. Together they moved to Pilot Grove in 1984 and have made their residence here until the present.

Tom continued to love the game of baseball and was an avid Cardinal's fan. He also enjoyed hunting whatever was in season, boating and spending time at the lake, listening to "oldies" music and he loved dogs of all kinds with Rika, his German Shepherd being the one he's leaving behind.

One group of people that have been very special to Tom are the coffee crew, who came to his house 2 to 3 times a week for years for coffee and conversation. There's no way to measure friendships.

Preceding Thomas L. Aydelott in death are his parents William T. and Betty Aydelott.

Those surviving Tom are his wife Janice of the home; sons Kevin Aydelott and wife Mary Jane of St. Charles, Mo., Kenneth Aydelott of Labadie, Mo., and Donnie Carey, Jr. and wife Jeanne of Grain Valley, Mo.; daughter Lori Vollrath and husband Chad of Pilot Grove, Mo.; sister Brandy Vanderbilt and husband Steve of Troy, Mo.; grandchildren Daniel, Kayla, Christopher, Chloe, Deryk, Parker, Leah, Ryan and Emma; aunts, uncles, numerous sister and brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, including his coffee drinking buddies.

The family would like to thank Tom's hospice nurses at Hometown Homecare, Judy and LuAnna, and Laurie Beach, from Pilot Grove Rural Health Clinic, for their constant care and comfort.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas L. Aydelott will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 9, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pilot Grove, Mo. with burial immediately following in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
