Susan Cordry Lewis, age 92 of Otterville, left this earth March 1st, 2017 at Tipton Oak Manor.
Sue was born January 29, 1925 to Elliott Kirtley and Pearl Cordry Duvall in Sedalia, Missouri. She graduated in 1942 from Otterville High School and went on to receive her bachelor's degree at the University of Central Missouri in 1947. She taught in the Sedalia School system for four years after graduation.
Sue and Forest Elliott Lewis were married April 13, 1952 and spent over 53 years together, working side by side and raising their three sons before his passing February 12, 2006.
Besides being busy as a housewife and mother, Sue was a vital part of the family farm operation, assisting with feeding the cattle and helping with baling and mowing hay, going in and fixing dinner for everyone, taking a little nap and hitting the outside chores again. She enjoyed flowers and was active in the Otterille Garden Club and Cooper County Historical Society. As time went by she took much pleasure in crossword puzzles, traveling, games including pitch, rummy and bingo. She always loved cats and kids, enjoying her grandchildren and handing out treats to them.
Sue was a long time active member of the First Baptist Church of Syracuse, especially involved in Vacation Bible School.
Preceding Sue in death were her parents, her husband and son John Lewis, who died February 1, 2013.
Surviving Sue Lewis are sons Kirtley Lewis and his wife Joyce of Otterville, Ralph Lewis of Long Beach, California; daughter-in-law Pam Lewis of California, MO; grandchildren Travis Lewis and his wife Katie of Otterville, Kristen Hackmann and her husband Ryan of Linn, and Sarah Woodall and her husband Chris of California, MO; step granddaughter Jessica Burger and her husband Matt of California, MO; 6 great-grandchildren and 3-step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Susan Cordry Lewis will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, March 4, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Syracuse, Missouri, with burial following in the Syracuse Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening, March 3 from 5 to 7 PM at the Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton, Missouri.
Memorials are suggested to Syracuse First Baptist Church or to the Syracuse Cemetery.
