Sterling A. Bates

July 12, 1931 — September 10, 2007

Sterling Andrew Bates, age 76, of Tipton, Missouri formerly of Stover, Missouri, passed away Monday, September 10, 2007, at his home.
He was born July 12, 1931, in the Big Buffalo community south of Stover, in Benton County, the only child of George E. "Tobe" and Mary Cable Bates. On September 25, 1954, in Gravois Mills, Missouri, Sterling married Jean Braden and she survives at their home.
He attended Stover High School and was an Army veteran, serving his country during the Korean War.
Sterling was a lineman for Co-Mo Electric in Tipton for forty years, retiring in 1993.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling hunting, car racing, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, but most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of almost 53 years, include four children and their spouses, Kevin and Donna Bates of Dayton, Ohio; Pamela and Hamid Dehdashti of Pittsburg, Kansas; Mark and Maria Bates of Columbia, Missouri and Tricia and Kelvin Boehlen of Tipton; uncles and aunts, Fred Cable, Henry and Mary Cable and Gertrude Jones, nine grandchildren, Joseph, Steven, Andy, Seameen, Sara, Mitchell, Dionne, Nicholas and Braden, two great grandchildren, also other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 13, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with Rev. Dinzel Webb officiating. Burial will be in the Big Buffalo Cemetery south of Stover.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 12, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover. Memorial contributions are suggested to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
