Stephen D. “Steve” Silvey, age 61, of Versailles passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 1, 2018, at his home. He was born August 30, 1956, in Versailles the youngest child of Loyd E. and Fay Lucille James Silvey. Steve was united in marriage to Leslie Shaw Johnson in 1995 and she survives at their home. He was a 1974 graduate of Versailles High School. At the time of his death he had worked for more than 20 years at the Tipton Correctional Center, where he was a stationary engineer. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family and friends. He was also an automobile enthusiast, often found tinkering with a car or truck that he owned. He was a family man, who loved spending time with his wife, kids and extended family. Steve also enjoyed spoiling his special little buddy “Pepper”, his dog. In addition to his wife of 25 years, he is survived by five children, John Silvey and wife Melissa of Versailles; Jennifer Silvey and companion Aaron Daulton of Stover; Jason Johnson of Sedalia; Barb Johnson and companion Stephanie Rivera of Versailles and Jeff Hibdon and wife Cindy of Gravois Mills; four siblings, Vernon Silvey of Versailles; Evelyn Pryor and husband Herschel of Versailles; Fonda Sue Raines of Versailles; Eddie Silvey of Versailles; fourteen grandchildren, Dakota, Jordan, Zachary, Karissa, Collene, Preston, Cheyenne, Payton, Savannah, Gavin, Draven, Dillon, Chance, and Cody and his wife Christine; five great grandchildren, Skylar, Anberlyn, Kara, Braylin and Jaylynn, along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Larry Raines. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 7, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Danny Owsley officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Versailles. In keeping with his wishes, Steve will be cremated following the services. Inurnment will be at a later date in the West Lawn Addition of the Versailles Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Department of Conservation.
