Stanley "Sid" Merriott

Stanley "Sid" Merriott, age 70 of Stover, passed away Monday, July 2, 2007, at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City.

He was born August 1, 1936, in Stover, a son of Orlyn H. and Ruth Brown Merriott. On March 20, 1960, in Cole Camp, he married Shirley Kaiser, and she survives at their home.

He was a 1954 graduate of Stover High School.

Sid worked for Lyle Rath Telephone Company, installing lines and poles for the original Stover telephone system, and later owned a dairy farm in Stover.

He was the Morgan County Western District Commissioner for eight years and the Morgan County Presiding Commissioner for an additional eight years.

Sid served on the Board of Directors at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover for a total of nineteen years, eighteen of those as President. He served on the board of the Missouri Association of Counties and as President of the Council of Local Government. He served on the Stover Cemetery Board and was a past member of the Stover Lions Club.

He was a lifelong, active member of the First Baptist Church in Stover, where he was a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, and an ordained Deacon since April 27, 1975.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Thomas Sidney Merriott and wife Tori of Lebanon; Major Timothy Scott Merriott and wife Melissa of West Lafayette, Indiana and Tamra Sue Wilson and husband Scott of Stover; one sister, Mary Nolting and husband Fredrick of Stover; a sister-in-law, Irene Merriott of Stover; six grandchildren, Taylor and Tyler Merriott, Nate and Colin Merriott and Corin and Corben Wilson; eight nieces and nephews, Becky Pritzel, Debbie Kroeschen, Kim Rymer, Anthony Nolting, Carey Nolting, Bradley Nolting, Richard Mueller and Robert Mueller, also other relatives and friends.

Sid was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Elvon L. Merriott, one sister, Cleo R. Mueller and a brother-in-law, Lawrence Mueller.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 7, at the First Baptist Church in Stover with Pastor Travis Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Stover Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday, July 6, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Stover.
