Sara Rhea Plochberger

Sara Rhea Plochberger, age 65, of Lohman, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
She was born January 2, 1943, in Jefferson City, a daughter of G. Ray and Edith Owens Scheperle. She was baptized March 13, 1943, at St. John's Lutheran Church-Stringtown and confirmed March 25, 1956, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lohman. Sara married Leroy Plochberger on October 9, 1965, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lohman and he survives at their home.
She was a 1960 graduate of Jefferson City High School and a 1963 graduate of the Lutheran School of Nursing in St. Louis.
Sara began her nursing career as a floor nurse at Memorial Community Hospital and later worked at the Sugarbaker Tumor Clinic from the mid 60's through the early 70's.
Sara took time off from nursing to stay home and raise her family. On April 20, 1982, she returned to her career as the first registered nurse at the Heisinger Lutheran Home. She recently received her 25-year pin for her employment at Heisinger Home and the current Heisinger Bluffs.
Sara was an active and faithful member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she served on the church council, was active in the WELCA and Margaret Circle, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible school and sang in the church choir. She was also the Thrivent representative for the church and was a former Luther League and Jr. Lutherans' sponsor.
When her children were young, she served as president of the Cole County R-I PTO, was a room mother, and leader of the Lohman 4-H club. She was also a member of the Missouri League of Nursing.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her family and doing for others. Sara's greatest enjoyment came from the pleasure she received in caring for her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Andrew Benne and one son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Jamie Plochberger all of Lohman; her mother-in-law, Olinda Plochberger, three sisters-in-law, Marie Scheperle, Doris Seidel and Debbie Linsenbardt, a brother-in-law, Wilfred Plochberger, five grandchildren, Natalie, Madalyn and Meredith Benne and Landon and Lexie Plochberger, also other relatives and many friends.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Scheperle.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, July 16, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lohman with Rev. Edward Merckel officiating. Interment will be in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Lohman.
The family will receive friends from 3:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 15, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. There will also be a memorial service at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, July 17, at the Heisinger Bluffs Independent Living Dining Room. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Paul's Youth Ministry Fund.
