Ruth Elizabeth Norman

April 8, 1928 — December 23, 2019

Ruth Elizabeth Schmitt Norman departed this life on December 23, 2019. She was 91 years, 8 months. She was born to S.A. Schmitt and Elizabeth Schollmeyer Schmitt on April 8, 1928 in Tipton, Missouri. On July 2, 1953, she was married to Gene Norman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Norman, Brothers Tony Schmitt and Norbert Schmitt, and her sister Barbara Ketterlin. She is survived by her brother Lee Schmitt of Tipton, children Cindy Norman Stack (St. James, Mo), Fred Norman (Tipton), and Brad Norman (Columbia, Mo), four grandchildren Ryan Stack, Steve Stack, Katie Hogenmiller, and Madi Huth, and eight great-grandchildren.

Ruth was a graduate of Tipton High School. She worked as a secretary for Tipton Schools and Bixler Gas and Appliance.

Ruth was involved in many community activities throughout her life. She wrote and conducted plays for the Tipton Centennial, Tipton Fair, and Maclay Follies that entertained large crowds. She helped spearhead new band uniforms and choir robes. She was the first secretary for the Community Pool and was instrumental in its completion. Ruth was a 4-H leader and Cub Scout leader for several years.

Ruth was a very talented and hard-working person. She could draw, construct, or fix about anything. She could make something from nothing. She gardened, canned, and could cook anything deliciously. Ruth could write plays and skits for all occasions. She had a quick wit and her writings were always funny. When building new houses and moving six times in six years, she did a lot of the constructing and moving and always made the house a home. She had compiled two books about her life and encouraged others to do the same. She enjoyed working with senior citizens and did many programs at the nursing home, as well as, being friends to all her older neighbors.
