Ruby Spickard Gilbert

Ruby Gilbert died peacefully on Wednesday, September 2, 2009. Ruby was born March 28, 1923 in Florence, Missouri a daughter of August and Grace Nolting Rehmer. She attended Grade School in Florence and High School in Stover, Missouri. She was a homemaker, mother and worked for a time as a pharmacy assistant. She was married to Gordon Lyle Spickard in 1944 and they had three children, Linda, Jana and Kim which they raised in Kansas City, Missouri. Gordon died in 1976. She remarried in 1983, to Loyd Gilbert and they lived in Sunrise Beach, Missouri until his death in 1989. After living in Germany and Pennsylvania with her daughter, Linda Kessler, she was reacquainted with a high school friend, Earl Bowman, at her 50th High School reunion and decided to move back to Kansas City. There, she and Earl spent nearly 10 years enjoying many activities, including cruises with her daughter, Linda, and Ruby's membership in the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 367, in Kansas City. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, also in Kansas City. She moved to New Hampshire to be closer to her daughter, Jana, in Jan 2008. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda, two brothers, Dale and Clyde Rehmer and a sister, Noma Fry. She is survived by her children, Jana Mallory of Orange, NH and Kim Spickard of CO as well as her grandchildren, Adena Fritz, Scot Olinger, Thomas Spickard, Matthew Spickard, Bethany Spickard, Christopher Mallory and Zachary Mallory, her sister, Ileen Masters and her companion Earl Bowman. A memorial service will be 1:30 P.M. Monday, September 7, at the Stover Community Center in Stover. Inurnment will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery in Florence at a later date.
