Robert George Martin

June 15, 1944 — February 4, 2024

Tipton

Robert (Bob) Martin was born on a farm near Dixon, Missouri on June 15, 1944. He was one of seven brothers and one sister born to Everett and Lena (Hale) Martin. Bob graduated from Dixon High School in 1962. After graduating, he went to work with his brothers at Brown Shoe Company and McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis before being drafted into the United States Army where he served from June 1965 to June 1967. Following his service, Bob was a member of the local American Legion Post 304.

In 1967 Bob joined his brother Tommy as a trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He proudly served the public and embodied the patrol’s motto “Service and Protection”. Bob was assigned to Zone 6 (Moniteau and Morgan Counties) and retired as Sergeant of Zone 6 after 29 years of service.

On December 13, 1969 Bob was united in marriage to Mary Eleanor Asahl. Bob and Mary made Tipton, Missouri their home raising their three (3) sons on a small farm. Bob enjoyed the outdoors, both hunting and fishing. He spent many hours working on the farm. After his retirement from the patrol, Bob began working at the Tipton Country Club taking care of the golf course. At this time, he developed a real love for the game of golf and most summer afternoons you could find him in a pick-up game with the golf course “regulars”.

Bob loved spending time camping and fishing with Mary and his boys, floating the Gasconade River with siblings and their families, and drowning minnows from his boat at Truman Lake. Family reunions in Dixon and at Meramec Springs were important times for Bob; he loved pitching horse shoes with his brothers and listening to the sweet notes of the blue grass bands. Bob was an avid quail hunter and he cherished spending chilly winter days with his boys, brothers or buddies tracking down a covey or two; he was a pretty good shot and he raised some good bird dogs too.

Bob was a member of the Tipton First Christian Church where he attended with his family and served as an elder for several years.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Mary at their home in Tipton; sons Lance (Sara) New Bloomfield, Aaron (Kim) California, Jason (Katie) Tipton; 8 grandchildren: Ridge (Ashley), Tyler (Brittany), Clayton (Ashton), Eleanor, Caroline, Grady, Levi and Cora; brothers Tommy (Alice) of Springfield, Stanley (Becky) of Dixon, Ralph (Pam) of Dixon, Gary (Susie) of Dixon, Terry (Mary) of Branson; one sister Dorothy Hughes of Lenexa, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Lena Martin, brother William (Bill) Martin and twin daughters Dana and Deanna Martin.
