Robert Lon Cooper

Robert "Bob" Lon Cooper, age 85, of Stover, died Friday, September 19, 2008, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.
He was born May 10, 1923, in Glensted, a son of Julius and Sudie Ratcliff Cooper. Rev. Val Strader united Bob in marriage to Marjorie A. Weicken on August 29, 1943, at the Versailles United Methodist Church. Marjorie survives at the Kidwell Home in Versailles.
He was a Navy veteran, serving his country during World War II.
Bob went to work for his brother, Warren at Cooper's Store in Stover. For thirty-eight years he helped operate and later co-own, with his wife, the store in Stover. He later retired from the Missouri Goldfish Hatchery in Stover.
Bob was a faithful member of the Stover United Methodist Church for 62 years, serving as Sunday school superintendent for many years. He was a former member of the Stover Lions Club and the Galloway-Martens American Legion Post 343 in Stover.
He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially if he could hunt or fish. His favorite pastime however was playing cards with his friends.
In addition to his wife of 65 years, Bob is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law Jim and Mary Cooper of Ash Grove and Jeff and Catherine Cooper of Oak Grove; one daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Dick Grant of Springfield; one sister, Virginia Ross of Versailles; ten grandchildren, several great grandchildren, also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Marsha Cooper and three brothers, Herbert, Warren and C.V. Cooper.
Services were Monday, September 22, at the Stover United Methodist Church with Pastor Diane Cutler officiating. Myrna Schroder accompanied the congregation in singing, "I Have Come to the Lake Shore." His sister, Virginia Ross accompanied Rev. Robert Ross in singing "Peace in the Valley" and "Precious Lord, Take My Hand." Interment, with military funeral honors rendered by Galloway-Martens American Legion Post 343 was in the West Lawn Addition of Versailles Cemetery. Casket bearers were his grandsons, Chris Rehmer, Pat Rehmer, Shane Broderson, Chad Broderson and Brent Cooper, along with Kent Englebrecht a close family friend.
