Rita Belle Wood

Rita Belle Wood, age 91, of the Golden Beach community, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles.
She was born June 22, 1925, in Indianola, Iowa, a daughter of Percival Arthur and Hazel Marie Bishop Wade. Rita was united in marriage to Raymond O. Wood who preceded her in death August 19, 1991.
Rita grew up in Indianola, Iowa, graduating from the local high school and attended Simpson College for two years.
She retired from Farmland Industries in Des Moines, Iowa, where she worked as a commercial artist for many years.
After retiring, Raymond and Rita moved to the Lake of the Ozarks area to be near their youngest daughter and her family. Rita stayed busy volunteering as a paraprofessional with the School of Osage, working at the school until well into her 80's.
She was a faithful and active member of the Lake Ozark Christian Church for many years, serving as an elder, elder emeritus, volunteering as an office assistant, and as church historian. At the time of her death she was a member of the Golden Beach Community Church.
She was a lifelong member of the VFW auxiliary, active in Posts in Iowa and Missouri.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Fuller "Bob" of Bagley, Iowa and Beverly Thomas and husband Dr. Benny Thomas of Four Seasons; one brother, Wesley Wade of Golden Beach, four grandchildren, Tami, Michele (Dave), Jim and Amanda (Jordan); ten great grandchildren, Charlie, Dalton, Dakota, Samantha, Jackie, Tevan, Bailey, Logan, Caleb, and Izzy, with another great grandson due in March, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Rita was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Margaret Ellen Heinzerling.
In keeping with her wishes, Rita was cremated. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, November 7, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Golden Beach Community Church, 26523 Golden Beach Road (Lake Road W-3), Barnett, MO 65011, with Pastor Linn Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Indianola, Iowa.
