Rickey Lee Barney

August 27, 1956 — May 20, 2019

Rickey Lee Barney, Sr., age 62, of Stover, passed away peacefully Monday morning, May 20, 2019, at his home.

He was born August 27, 1956, in Independence, a son of Ronald K. Barney and Barbara H. Odom.  On July 1, 1990, Rickey was united in marriage to Audrey Waddell, who survives at their home.

He was an Army veteran, serving his country in the Vietnam War, receiving his honorable discharge in 1987.

Most of Rickey’s professional career was spent in law enforcement; working as an officer with the Grain Valley Police Department and later as a deputy with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department.  After retiring from law enforcement he began driving over-the-road for Schneider Trucking and Midwest Express, both located in Jackson County.

Rickey and Audrey decided to move from the city and found a peaceful spot south of Stover where he could enjoy fishing and the beautiful countryside.  After moving to Morgan County he drove a cement truck for Laurie Ready-Mix until his health forced him to retire.

His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family, especially when it was with his grandkids.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children and their spouses, Charles and Pam Barney of Odessa; Christopher and Nicole Lady of Burleson, Texas and Crystal and Ray Fanlon of Versailles; his mother, Barbara Ashley of Independence; twelve grandchildren, Blake and Brittine Barney, Tyler and Alexus Barney; Dalton, Dillon and Alayna Barney, Trey and Tayte Lady, Rylee Manuel and Kyren and Korben Fanlon; two great grandchildren, Ashton and Karalee; four brothers, Ron Barney and wife Jackie, Robbie Ashley and wife Rudel, William Miller and Donald Ashley and one sister, Connie Felton, along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
