R.G. Thompson

October 20, 1936 — January 28, 2021

Ralph Gerald (R.G.) Thompson, Jr., Jefferson City, MO lost his long and courageous battle with sarcoma on January 28 th , 2021.  He was born October 20, 1936 in Batesville, Arkansas, the first child of Lola Barry and R.G. Thompson Sr., who both had grown up in Moniteau County, MO.  In 1946, the family returned to the High Point, MO area.  On November 30 th , 1957 he married Wanda Baquet Thompson at the High Point Baptist Church in Moniteau County, where they met as children.

R.G attended Melbourne Public School through fourth grade and finished 8 th grade at Hale School, a one room schoolhouse in Moniteau County.  He graduated from California High School, California, MO in 1954, Southwest Baptist College, Bolivar, MO and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Economics from Southwest Missouri State in 1960.  He was a charter member of Delta Tau Alpha, a scholastic agricultural honor society.  R.G. and Wanda moved to northeast Iowa for two years where he worked for Carnation Company, until they purchased farmland in Moniteau County and returned there to farm for the remainder of his life.

He is survived by his wife, and four children;  Brent Gerald, (Kimberly), of St. Louis, MO  and children Hallie (Ben), Merle, Reilly and Ethan;  John Clendon (Tina) of Youngstown, OH and sons John Colton (Sarah Grace) of Washington, D.C. and Mitchell Gerald, of Los Angeles, CA;  Greta (Kim Edward Hull) of Jefferson City, MO and children Julia, of Birmingham, AL, Quintin (Victoria) of Indianapolis, IN, and Emma, of Jefferson City, MO.   Sallianne (Jon Kaltenbronn) of Eldon, MO and son Josh of McKinney, TX; one great granddaughter, Kennedy Grace of Birmingham, AL.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, John Enoch and Eric Gene.
