Rena Maxine Lutjen

January 16, 1926 — February 4, 2009

Rena Maxine Hix Lutjen, age 83, of Stover, died Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.
She was born January 16, 1926, in Bowen, Missouri, a daughter of Harrison and Thelma Wingard Hix, both deceased. Rena was united in marriage to Clamens W. Lutjen on August 28, 1945, in Sedalia. He preceded her in death October 11, 1983.
Rena taught school for several years in the rural schools of Morgan County and later retired from the Morgan County Head Start Program. In addition, she was a great mother to anyone who needed mothering. She was a wonderful baker, seamstress, and friend to everyone. Her motto was "Do something nice for someone every day." She enjoyed bowling for a good number of years and made many long lasting friendships doing what she enjoyed. She also had a knack for plants, especially African violets.
She was an active and faithful member of the Stover United Methodist Church and all knew of the contributions she was always ready to make. Many a pie that Rena made were enjoyed by all at any church social event. It was nothing for her to donate 25+ pies for a church dinner, and everyone knew which pies were Rena's just by looking at the crust.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, C.L. and Roselyn Lutjen of Sedalia; a son-in-law, Ed Douglas of Sedalia and his close friend Karen Bellis of Stover; also three sisters, Rita Burns, Ruth Williams and Rosalie Henderson all of Cole Camp; one brother, James Hix of Windsor; eight grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren, along with other relatives and many friends in the Stover community.
In addition to her husband and parents, Rena was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Douglas who died three years ago, two brothers, Ralph and Russell Hix and one sister, Ruby Arnhold.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 7, at the Stover United Methodist Church with Rev. Diane Cutler officiating. Burial will be in the Stover Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the Stover United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
