Raymond Joseph Martin

Raymond Joseph Martin, age 90, of Tipton died peacefully Tuesday, March 26, 2019 surrounded by his family. Born in Lamine, MO on July 10, 1928, he was one of four children of Henry Amel and Margaret Mary Martin. He was a graduate of Pilot Grove High School prior to moving with his parents to Syracuse as a young man. Ray served on active duty in the US Army from 1951 to 1953 then transferred to Army Reserve to complete 8 years of service to his country.

Ray was united in marriage on October 27, 1954 to Mildred B. Orscheln. The couple made Tipton their home for 64 years of marriage. During this time, the couple was blessed with 3 children who also reside in Tipton.

Ray was a truck owner and operator driving for Greyhound Van-lines and Atlas Van-lines. He traveled all 50 states, often accompanied by his wife and children. During his career he was honored as truck driver of the year and had traveled millions of miles accident free. Ray’s retirement was spent enjoying time on the farm. He and Mildred also spent time as winter Texans in the Rio Grande Valley for several years.

Ray was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed showing that love by tormenting them. He would share anything he had with anyone in need. He was often generous to a fault.

Those preceding Ray in death include his parents, Henry and Margaret Martin; brother Leonard Martin; sister Mildred Kraus; and grandson Luke John Crane.

Surviving Ray are his wife Mildred, of the home; son Paul Ray Martin with wife Debbie, daughters Jean Marie Crane with husband Mike, and Kay Ellen Clifford with husband Randy, all of Tipton. Other survivors include granddaughters Dana Woodward, Katie Kuttenkuler, and Deann Lawson; grandsons Matthew Clifford, Scott Clifford, Michael Crane, and Kyle Martin; 15 great-grandchildren; and sister Florence Westermier of Lamont, MO.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 29, 2019 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tipton. The rosary will be led at 9:30 a.m. with visitation following until the time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. with burial immediately following at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery.
