Philip Starnes

Philip Cassius Starnes, age 67, of Stover, died unexpectedly Monday morning, May 20, 2019, at his home.

He was born November 12, 1951, in Kansas City, Kansas a son of Walter C. and Julia Bush Starnes.

Phil was a Navy veteran, serving his country during the Vietnam War.

At the time of his death he was working as a merchandiser for Budweiser.

Phil was very proud of his service to his country and also his American heritage; which was evident in his collection of Western memorabilia.   He was a man who liked spending time at home; whether it was working in the yard, fixing up the house, enjoying his favorite shows on the television, or sitting on the porch with Donna, he truly enjoyed the simple moments in life.

Survivors include his spouse, Donna Williams of the home; four children, Janette Seals and husband John of Lee’s Summit; Sandy Butzler and husband Mark, Christy Donaldson and husband Shawn and David Martin and wife Sonita all of Independence, four siblings, Russel, Alice, Dorthy and Mary; several grandchildren, including five very special grandchildren, Nicholas Brian Mance and wife Brianna, Nathaniel Phillip Lairson, Sierra Marie Lairson, Jonathan Alan Seals, Ashlynn Karen Seals and D.J. Dunfield,  several great grandchildren, including three very special great grandchildren, Lennox Louise Mance, Adelynn Rene Olmos and Neveah Johnson,  along with other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Bob, Edith (sis), Corky, Gene, Ed, Ken, JoAnn, Jim, and Judy.

A celebration of Phil’s life will be Saturday, June 1, from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover.

The family is requesting memorial contributions be directed to the funeral home to assist in paying for final expenses.
