Paul Howard Hickey

January 31, 1953 — September 11, 2020

Paul Howard Hickey of Barnett died unexpectedly on Friday, September 11, 2020, at his farm, which is exactly the way he would have wanted it.

He was born January 31, 1953, in Versailles the only son of Howard Clay and Marian Bias Hickey.

Paul was a graduate of Versailles High School.  He served his country in the United States Army, receiving his honorable discharge in February of 1978.

For 14 years Paul worked in construction, building condominiums at the Lake of the Ozarks.  His opportunity to fulfill a childhood dream came with the opening on the Morgan County Road District crew.  For 23 years Paul graded the roads throughout Morgan County; meticulously making sure each road was maintained to his high standards.

He was an outdoorsman, who enjoyed deer hunting and working in the timber on his property.  He was an avid fisherman; who along with his dad, designed and sold their own fishing lures for many years.

Paul loved being on his farm and spent many hours working on his property, enjoying the solitude and beauty of the land.  You couldn’t have a truer friend because he was a man of his word and expected the same from those he met.

Paul is survived by his mother, Marian Doyel of Fortuna; his special friend, Evelyn Hedges of Stover; a sister, Susan Atwell of Fortuna; a nephew, Will Atwell and wife Amber and their daughters, Bailey, Brielle and Marien, along with aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Howard Hickey and a nephew, Dustin Haight.

In keeping with his wishes he will be cremated.  No public services are planned.  Private inurnment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date.
