Orion Alexander Maddy

December 21, 2017 — August 16, 2019

Orion Alexander Maddy, youngest son of Leland and Megan Hinton Maddy, passed away Friday, August 16, 2019, at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, with his mom and dad by his side.

Orion arrived on December 21, 2017, in Columbia, Missouri, born with a Heart Valve Defect  and from the time he was born he defied all of the doctor’s expectations.  It’s as if he knew his time was precious, so he made the most of what time he had.  He learned to walk, when they said he wouldn’t, he had a tremendous appetite for a toddler and most of all; Orion seemed to have an “old soul” and wisdom far surpassing his years. He absorbed details of the world and people around him.

He loved music, everything from rock to Beethoven.  His musical ability was evident when at a little more than a year he picked up a set of drum sticks and tapped out a beat alongside his older siblings in the family band.

He looked forward to bath time and loved the water, as long as you didn’t touch his feet.  In his short year and a half, he brought great joy and love to everyone he met and showed us all how to exceed expectations.

Survivors include his dad and mom, Leland and Megan Maddy of the home; five siblings, Haiden Maddy of Stover; Arianna, Sabrina, Lilly and Nathan Maddy all of the home; maternal grandfather, Ronnie Jones of Stover; maternal grandmother, Nancy Martin of Peoria, Illinois; paternal grandmother, Carole Maddy of Stover; paternal great grandmother, Kathleen Jenkins of Stover; along with several aunts, uncles, cousins and family friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Steve Maddy.

A celebration of Orion's life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover with Pastor Diane Cutler officiating.  Burial will be in the Stover Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to The American Heart Association.
