Norene J Hazlett

Norene Jeanette Hazlett, age 88, lifelong resident of Bunceton, entered into her heavenly reward on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover, surrounded by her family.

She was born January 5, 1931, in Bunceton a daughter of William Carl and Nora Alburtha Toler Brandes.  On September 17, 1949, in Buncton, Norene was united in marriage to G.T. “Tommy” Hazlett, who preceded her in death July 13, 1996.

She was a loyal and faithful member of the Bunceton Baptist Church, where she was active as a Sunday school teacher and the church pianist for many years; until her arthritic hands made it impossible for her to “make a joyful noise” any longer.

She was a proud supporter of the Bunceton Dragons, enjoyed having family get-togethers and supporting events in her home town.

Norene babysat for many years, touching the lives of numerous children and their families in the area. However, her greatest enjoyment was being a housewife and mother, raising her five children, and loving and spoiling many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her five children and their spouses, Richard and Joyce Hazlett of Boonville; Sandy and John Holem of Stover; Mark and Stacy Hazlett of Osawatomie, Kansas; Michael and Angie Hazlett and Kevin and Shelly Hazlett all of Bunceton; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Norene was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and their spouses, Robert Brandes, Kenneth and Ann Brandes, Paul and Marian Brandes, Maxine and Harold Hein and infant Juanita Brandes, daughter-in-law, Diane Hazlett and great grandson, Lane Holem.

Funeral services will be 12:00 noon Saturday, May 18, at the Bunceton Baptist Church with Rev. Lynn Spencer officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church on Saturday.

Interment will be in the Masonic Cemetery in Bunceton.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lane Holem Scholarship Fund or the Masonic Cemetery in Bunceton.
