Norbert Earl Langkop

June 21, 2015 — May 2, 2018

Norbert E. Langkop, age 102, a long time resident of Cooper County, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Tipton Oak Manor. Norbert was the only son of Oscar and Della Langkop and was born June 21, 1915. He spent his early years in Bunceton. His mother passed away when he was only six and his father worked for the Corp of Engineers so young Norbert spent his growing up years living with one and then another of his paternal aunts and uncles in the Bunceton and Prairie Home areas. Consequently he attended various elementary schools.

Norbert spent his high school years in Bunceton and there he met and married Dorothy Layne, daughter of Bailey and Emma Belle Layne. Dorothy and Norbert had two children, a son Norbert (Skip) and a daughter Gayle.

Norbert attended college in Boonville and made his career in farming and operating heavy equipment. He owned several farms in the Syracuse area. In addition, Norbert volunteered and built the foundation for the Bunceton Lions Club.

When he was quite young, Norbert received a saxophone as a Christmas gift from his father and taught himself to play. He became a very good sax player and created a band that he called "The Melody Makers". The Melody Makers played mostly for dances with numerous members of the community performing. This provided many hours of enjoyment for the community.

Preceding Norbert in death are his parents; his wife and mother of his children, Dorothy; his second wife Wilma; his son Skip Langkop; a dear friend Georgeanna Rau and his brother-in-law Bill Layne.

Surviving Norbert is his daughter Gayle Potter; three grandchildren, Jill Campbell and her husband Jimmie of Columbia, Missouri, Sam and Amanda Langkop; two great grandchildren, Cheyenne and Dalton Campbell and one sister-in-law Lucy Layne.
