Nancy Lee Backes

Nancy L. Backes, 80, of Tipton, Missouri passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Tipton Oak Manor with her family at her side. She was born in Seymour, Missouri to Rudy and Vida Gentges. Nancy was a graduate of St. Peters High School in Jefferson City and married Carl Backes, her high school sweetheart, on April 16, 1955. Carl passed away March 29, 1993 after 38 years of marriage.

Nancy enjoyed playing cards, bowling, golf, going to the lake, and spending time with her friends. Her family was the most cherished part of her life. She was a 25 year employee of the Farmers Bank of Lohman/St. Martins. She was a member of St. Martins Catholic Church and of St. Andrews Catholic Church.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Carl; grandson Nick Pettigrew, and granddaughter Megan Jo Backes.

She is survived by daughters Karla Pettigrew and her husband Ross of Tipton, Lisa Michel of Kansas City; sons Greg Backes and his wife Mary Jo of Tipton, Tim Backes and his wife Julie of Centertown; brother John Gentges; grandchildren Toby Pettigrew, Carl Pettigrew, Kylie Carey Backes, Scott Backes, Rachel Backes, Cameron Backes, Abby Backes, Eric Backes, Jayme Chain, Tiffany Butler; and 12 beautiful great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial for Nancy Backes will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Tipton. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Monday evening at the church with a Rosary beginning at 4:30 PM. Gravesite committal services will be held at 2:30 PM in St. Martins Catholic Cemetery following the funeral Mass.
