Mitch Turpin

October 8, 1966 — January 28, 2021

Phillip Mitchel Turpin, also known as “Mitch” was born on October 8, 1966, at the Bothwell Hospital in Sedalia.  His proud parents, Phillip and Phyllis Spratt Turpin brought their son home to join his sister Paula. With time the family grew with additions of Mitch’s younger siblings Patrick and later Payton.

Mitch grew up in Versailles, graduating from Versailles High School in 1985. Mitch developed lasting friendships with so many people while in school, providing a true and considerate friend to those in his life.  He was one who was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need; which remained a lifelong quality.

Following graduation he went to work at Delta in Eldon and for the next 23 years. Mitch was a dedicated employee seeing the company through the numerous acquisitions and name changes, namely Delta-Kieper, Kieper, Johnson Controls and then Adient.  After Mitch joined American Plastics in Jefferson City where he was currently employed.

Mitch was a caring father, whose love for others was never more apparent than when he married Renee Young, becoming an instant family also welcoming Rhea and Randa into his life.  Before long the family of four became a family of six, with the addition of Kyler and then Kenzi.  Mitch’s life was full and he embraced being a dad; loving every minute he could spend with his kids. As a supportive father Mitch could be found in the stands rooting for them at their sporting and academic events.

Mitch always had a passion for tinkering with cars and electronics, there was never a piece of equipment he was afraid to take apart and reassemble. He loved planting trees, literally any kind of tree, and watching it grow. Mitch never lost his love of hanging out with friends, old and new, and listening to his beloved 80’s Rock.  If there was one quality that described Mitch the best, it was his love for his family and his friends.

For the past few months Mitch had battled with some health issues, fighting through a month long hospitalization so he could finally come home.  It was on Thursday morning, January 28, 2021, his battle ended, he passed away unexpectedly at his home with his sister, Paula by his side.

Mitch’s legacy will continue with his four children; Rhea Miller and husband Justin, Randa Turpin and companion Payden Hibdon, Kyler Turpin, and Kenzi Turpin all from Versailles and his granddaughter, Piper Hibdon.  He is also survived by his beloved siblings, Paula Turpin-Woodward and husband William of Princeton; Patrick Turpin and wife Jessica of High Point and Payton Turpin and wife Jennifer of California; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Mitch was preceded in death by his parents, Phil and Phyllis, his step-mother, Brenda, a cousin and best friend, Nolan Sousley, and close friend, Lana Andersen.
