Milferd C. Nolting

Milferd C. Nolting, age 81, lifelong resident of Stover, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.


He was born January 2, 1926, in rural Stover, a son of August P. and Rebecca Stucker Nolting. He was baptized January 31, 1926, and confirmed July 21, 1940, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church near Stover. On August 19, 1956, he married Ardella Miesner at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Stover and she survives at their home.


He was an Army veteran, serving his country in the Korean War.

As a young man he worked at the Ford Garage in Tipton. Following their marriage, Milferd and Ardella owned and operated Nolting's Department Store in Stover for 45 years, retiring in 2004. He also owned and operated Nolting's Rockin N Ranch in Stover, spending the last several years working with his son on their farm.


He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stover, moving his membership from the Bethlehem Lutheran Church when it was disbanded. Milferd served as a Stover City Alderman and was the Stover Fair Board President for many years. He was a member of the Stover Chamber of Commerce and a past member of the Stover Lions Club.


In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Wayne Nolting and wife Cheryl of Stover and Brian Nolting and friend Rita Emmerich of Versailles; one sister, Melva Beeman of Tipton; three grandchildren, Trent Nolting and Brock and Chad Nolting, also nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.


Milferd was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Wilbert and Orva Nolting.


Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 24, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stover with Pastor Cecil Murdock officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Stover.


The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 23, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover, with a prayer service at 6:15 p.m.


Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Paul Lutheran School or the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stover.
