Mary Elizabeth Thomas

Mary E. Thomas, age 85 passed away Thursday afternoon , October 4, 2018 at Tipton Oak Manor, Tipton, Missouri. Mary had been a resident of Syracuse, Missouri until her health prevented her from remaining in her home.

One of eight children, Mary was born September 29, 1933 to James Arlington and Lucy E. Sanders in Florence, Missouri. She graduated high school in Otterville, Missouri in 1950. On October 14, 1950 she and Robert Clinton Thomas were married and had over 61 years together until his passing in June of 2012. They were blessed with five children who have all made their homes in this area.

Mary was a beautician and had her own shop in Bunceton, Missouri. Her family all called upon her services when it was time for a haircut. She also worked for a period of time at the shoe factory in Tipton.

Mary and Robert enjoyed traveling and went to the walking horse shows in Tennessee several years in a row. She and her daughters had a wonderful time together going to Dollywood in Tennessee and also visiting the Bush Bean factory which they all enjoyed. Mary liked to sew, knit, bowl and she was an excellent cook especially excelling in making peach cobbler, meat loaf, potato salad and slaw as the family recalled. Mary was a member of the Syracuse Baptist Church in Syracuse, Missouri.

Preceding Mary E. Thomas in death were her parents; her husband; her daughter Janet Lynn Irey who passed away in 2016; her grandson Chad Ryan Wolfe who tragically died in this year of 2018; five brothers and two sisters.

Surviving Mary are her sons James Clinton Thomas and his wife Brenda of Syracuse, Missouri and Robert Keith Thomas and his wife Paulette of Tipton, Missouri; daughters Marcia Kay Wolfe and her husband Wendell of Pilot Grove, Missouri and Jean Ann Newcomb (Janet's twin) and her husband David of California, Missouri; son-in-law Jim Irey of Latham, Missouri; 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Thomas will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton, Missouri with burial immediately following at the Syracuse Cemetery. A visitation will begin at 12 noon Sunday prior to services.
