Mary Lou Hainen

Mary Lou Hainen, age 79 of Tipton, passed away June 11, 2020. Mary Lou was born Sept 8, 1940 to Andrew J. Hainen and Louise Fisher Hainen. Mary Lou was born with Cerebral Palsy. In past times, she was unable to attend school. However, Mary Lou’s father engaged a private teacher, the Reverend Shipley, who taught Mary Lou to read, write and mathematics. Many of the residents of Tipton will remember in the 1940’s and 1950’s Mary Lou’s father would take her for rides around town in a golf cart. Back in those days, golf carts were a rare sight. Mary Lou enjoyed these outings and many children would wave at her and her father as they rode by houses in the neighborhood.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents Andy and Louise Hainen. She was cared for by Gladys Putnam and when Gladys passed away, the staff at Tipton Manor provided excellent care for Mary Lou. She attended the Sunday School taught by Mrs. Gibson and she enjoyed the music provided by Bill Stahl and his sons; her favorite song being “JESUS LOVES ME”. Mary Lou would light up with joy and delight when that song was played.

A Graveside Service with Father Alex Gabriel officiating, is planned for Mary Lou Hainen at 10:30 a.m., June 13, 2020 at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Tipton, where she will be buried next to her parents. A Mass will be held at a later date for Mary Lou.
