Mary Elizabeth DeBoever

August 14, 1922 — July 17, 2018

Mary Elizabeth DeBoever, age 95, formerly of Independence, passed away, Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.

She was born August 14, 1922, in Holliday, Kansas a daughter of James William “Bill” and Barbara Lee Morris.

Mary met her husband while working at the Bomber plant in Kansas City during World War II.  At the encouragement of a co-worker, Mary began writing to a young soldier named Raymond DeBoever, who was serving his country overseas.  When Ray returned to the states on October 10, 1945, he met the woman who kept corresponding with him through the long months of war.  On November 17, 1945, Mary and Ray were united in marriage and spent the next 65 years together until Ray’s death on March 2, 2011.

Mary was a homemaker, busy raising two children and creating a loving home for her family.  She was a wonderful cook who loved to provide delicious meals for her family.  She was also an avid gardener; raising vegetables and flowers for everyone to enjoy.

When her children were almost grown, Mary began traveling with Ray on his trucking route, co-driving and seeing the countryside.  When they weren’t on the road you could find them side-by-side in a fishing boat or on a camping trip, enjoying their time together.  Family was the most important thing to Mary and she looked forward to the large family reunions that were held over the years.

Mary is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Sandy DeBoever of Gravois Mills; four grandchildren and their spouses, Steve and Melissa Roberson, Kevin and Brandy Roberson, Shelbie Torres and Kellie and Bill Giddens, eight great grandchildren, Seth Roberson, Shawnda Roberson, Chelsea Roberson, Abigail Roberson, Alexa Bledsoe, Grace Torres, Eva Torres and Allie Torres, one great-great granddaughter, Blaire Roberson, along with nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father, Bill Morris, her mother Barbara Stahl, one daughter, Nancy Roberson, one brother, Ed Morris and one sister, Ruth Gauble.
