Martha Ann Witte

September 16, 1940 — December 27, 2021

Martha Witte, age 81, of Stover passed away Monday, December 27, 2021 at her home.

On September 16, 1940, our grandparents, Clifford “Glen” and Anna Alice Smalley Martin were blessed with the birth of their first baby girl, Martha Ann. On December 18, 1960 at the Stover United Methodist Church, Martha was united in marriage to Oliver Witte, who preceded her in death in January 1987.

Martha was a talented quilter and enjoyed working at the family owned business, Quality Quilting most of her working career. She also collected quilt blocks as a hobby.  She worked as a secretary at Sacred Heart School in Sedalia as well as being a faithful employee at G2M Supermarket in Stover until she had to retire due to health reasons.

Always one to keep her hands busy, she enjoyed working in the garden and always kept a big vegetable garden and canned all the produce and her flowers were the envy of many!  She spent hours crocheting and knitting and her sewing always looked professional. When she could no longer get out to garden she began writing as therapy for her hands and this resulted in her copying the Bible many times by hand, always putting the words of Jesus in red.  She loved wolves, her fur babies and her family.  She enjoyed sitting in the backyard in the summer watching the hummingbirds which she fed.  She was a small woman but had a heart as big as anyone could possibly imagine.  She was a faithful Christian and dedicated member of the United Methodist Church of Stover spending many, many years as a Sunday School teacher, a member and later a director of the choir.

Left to carry on Martha’s legacy are her daughters and sons-in-law, Marcy and Alan Canida of Otterville, Angela and Steve Robinson of Stover, Anna Lee Witte of Florida, and Emily and Ron Anderson of Stover; a brother and sister-in-law, Claude and Peggy Martin of Missouri; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Gene Cox; grandchildren, Brandon (Jami) Robinson, Ryan Robinson, James Armstrong Jr., Kimber Armstrong, Morgan Hardesty, and Nolan Ellis; eight great grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Oliver, she was preceded in death by her parents.

An informal time of gathering and sharing stories will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon with a short service at noon on Friday, December 31, 2021 at the Stover United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be in the Stover Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Stover Animal Shelter.
