Marilynn Mable Marcum

November 8, 1936 — September 28, 2017

Marilynn M. Marcum was born on November 8, 1936 at Tipton, Missouri to Fred William and Lea Marie (Waltescheid) Schmidt. She left this world September 28, 2017. She married her high school sweetheart Deo Marcum on November 10, 1955. To this union four sons were born; Mark (Rhonda) of Natalia, Texas, Brent (deceased), Brian and Keith of Tipton.

Marilynn is survived by her husband Deo, sons Mark, Brian and Keith Marcum; her sister Jean Lutz of Tipton, Missouri; three granddaughters Rhea Marcum (Doug Hampton) of Sedalia, Tabitha Essig (Matt) and Ashley Weeks (Andy) of Aledo, Illinois; six great grandchildren Jarek and Zachary Brown, Landon and Lana Weeks, Tristan Frick and Mattilyn, Trey and Trevon Essig.

Preceding Marilynn in death were her parents, three brothers Con, Pat and Ray Schmidt and her son Brent.
Marilynn was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, St. Andrew’s Altar Society, Red Hat Society, Tipton Country Club and the infamous “DDT” or Dirty Dozen of Tipton which was established in 1953. She loved to garden and loved flowers and her yard where she fed birds, squirrels and probably a lot of other animals. She especially enjoyed the owls who raised their young in the big trees in front of her house. She loved all the dogs she had in her lifetime, which were many. She had a varied career, working at Weber Shoe Co. for several years, as a cosmetologist, owner of the Wagon Wheel Tavern for nine years and also the 5 and 50 Liquor Store for five years and finally retiring from the Missouri Department of Corrections after 20 years of service.

The true measure of a woman is not known by her professional success or material gains but by her love of family and her devoted “DDT” sisters.

Pallbearers for Marilynn’s service are Rhea Marcum, Tabitha Essig, Ashley Weeks, Tristan Frick and Jarek and Zachary Brown. Honorary pallbearers are the DDT ladies and their spouses.
