Marilyn Fay Stafford, 82, of Nixa, MO, formerly of Stover, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2026, at her home in Nixa.

She was born on July 7, 1943, in Stover, Missouri, a daughter of Richard and Hazel Fajen.

Marilyn grew up in Stover and was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she formed a strong foundation of faith that remained important throughout her life. She attended Stover High School and went on to further her education at the University of Missouri and later at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, where she earned her degree in education.

Marilyn devoted her life to teaching, sharing her love of art and creativity with generations of students. She taught in the Stover and Versailles school districts before moving to Sedona, Arizona, where she continued her teaching career. Marilyn retired in 2008 after many dedicated years as an art teacher, leaving behind a lasting influence on the students she inspired.

On July 16, 1967, she was united in marriage to Robert Paul Stafford, who preceded her in death. On June 26, 2015, she was united in marriage to James L. Mayberry, who survives of the home.

Marilyn had a passion for traveling and cherished the experiences and memories made along the way. She enjoyed dining out with family and friends and especially loved painting, which allowed her to express her creativity and bring beauty to those around her. Marilyn was known for her outgoing personality and warm spirit. She never met a stranger and had a special gift for making others feel welcome. She treasured her friendships and will be remembered for her kindness, laughter, and genuine love for people.

Marilyn’s life was one of creativity, friendship, and dedication to others. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 11 years Jim Mayberry of Nixa, MO.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her first husband Robert; one daughter, Kamala Rae Stafford; one brother, Richard Douglas Fajen.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Stover.
