Lowene Irene (Gillespie) Anderson, 86, of Tipton, passed away, Saturday, April 3, 2021 of natural causes.
She was born April 30, 1934 in Alliance, NE, a daughter of Hallie John Gillespie and Ethel Leola Key Gillespie. On June 8, 1952 she married Dwayne Albert Anderson who passed away on September 20, 2020.
She graduated in 1952 from Alliance High School. She started her working career at the Dime Store in Alliance as a soda jerk and cash girl. After moving to Missouri with husband Dwayne and first child Janet, she worked at a material shop in Versailles. In 1957, after living in Versailles and Fortuna, the family settled in Tipton. Lowene made pies for a local restaurant, baby sat, worked at Ben Franklin, and three different factories: Weber Shoes, Builtwell Pants, and Bassett Bedding. In 2000, she retired at age 67 from Bassett Bedding.
Lowene was an excellent seamstress, homemaker and cook. Her children called her the Jell-O Queen for the various Jell-O salads she made. The family’s favorite was dubbed “Orange Stuff”.
She is survived by one sister, Darlene Crow of Portsmouth, RI; four children, Janet Frakes (Larry) of Cassville, MO, Belinda Corbet (Max) of Boise, Idaho, Christine Melton (Gary) of Valley City, Ohio, Rodney Anderson (Sherry) of Tipton; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A visitation for both Dwayne and Lowene will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton, MO.
A private burial will be held at a later date at the Tipton Masonic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church of Tipton.
