Lowell Cleo Fethke
April 27, 1933 — March 3, 2020
Lowell “Cleo” Fethke, age 86, of rural Versailles passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at the SSM St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City.
Cleo was born April 27, 1933, on the family farm outside of Florence, a son of Lowell and Nettie Kindrick Fethke. On December 4, 1960, at the Stover Methodist Church Parsonage, he was united in marriage to Alberta Hazel Ellison.
In 1951, he graduated from Morgan Co. R-1 Stover High School.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. During his time in service in Korea, he developed his lifelong career in heavy equipment operating during the clean-up efforts.
He was a heavy equipment operator for Clarkson Construction in Kansas City for more than 40 years, retiring in 1996.
Cleo’s wife, children, and grandsons were his biggest enjoyments in his life. He lived for his family taking care of them to very end. He enjoyed family gatherings with his family and his nieces and nephews. Cleo loved being outdoors deer hunting, fishing with his grandsons, and watching for wildlife around the farm. He also loved restoring antique tractors with his grandsons.
He was an active member of the Galloway-Martin American Legion Post 343 in Stover.
In addition to his wife of almost 60 years, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Luesa Schader-Fethke; one daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Jerry Holsten all of Florence; two grandsons, Schuyler and Alex Holsten; and one step-grandson, Dusten Wolfe.
Cleo was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Wayne Fethke and Gilbert and Janice Fethke; and one daughter, Kristin Harris.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2020, at the Florence United Methodist Church with Pastor Vonda Veale officiating. Burial will be in the Florence UMC Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Stover.
