Lorena Lydia Koester

Lorena Lydia Koester, age 94, of Stover and Sedalia, passed away Friday, September 1, 2017, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.
She was born August 3, 1923, in Stover, the youngest daughter of Theodore and Pauline Nolting Fischer. She was baptized August 12, 1923 and confirmed March 21, 1937 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stover.  The confirmation verse chosen was Isaiah 41:10, " Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."
Lorena was united in marriage to Vernon Edward Louis Koester on April 11, 194 2 in Stover. Vernon preceded her in death October 11, 2009.
Lorena worked at Smithson’s Inc. in Stover as a quilter for many years. After moving to Sedalia she was employed at Bothwell Hospital and the Best Western Motel before retiring.
Lorena was a lifelong, faithful member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran congregation, first as a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stover and later as a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sedalia.
She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing many items for her family throughout the years. She was an avid gardener, who enjoyed tending to the flowers in her yard as well as the bounty in her vegetable garden. She loved being with her family and they looked forward to her wonderful home cooked meals and being in the loving home she provided.
For the past several years Lorena resided at the Golden Age Living Center where the staff and residents became her second family.
Survivors include two children and their spouses; Rosalyn and Richard Shipps of Green Ridge and Randy and Jacqueline Koester of Hood River, Oregon; four grandchildren, Tina Hill and friend Jeff Norwood; Sandy Welton and husband Alex; Lana DeJaynes and husband Danny and Eli Koester; eleven great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Lorena was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Vernon Lyle Koester and Ted Koester, one granddaughter, Yvonne Groshans, five brothers, Arthur, Walter, Leo, Paul and Henry Fischer and three sisters, Irene Uftring, Paula Fischer, and Renata Ehlers.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stover with Pastor Jeremy Freeman officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Graveside services and interment will be at 2:00 p.m. THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 7 at Highland Sacred Gardens in Sedalia. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Stover and St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Sedalia.
