Lois Rae Brandt

April 14, 1943 — March 15, 2018

Lois Rae Brandt, 74, of Holts Summit, was called to her heavenly home, Thursday, March 15, 2018, at her residence.

She was born April 14, 1943, in Edgerton, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Raymond Charles and Elvira Harriett (Maves) Purnell.

She was united in marriage on December 18, 1965, in Edgerton, Wisconsin, to Warren Paul Brandt who survives at the home.

Lois worked for many years as a teacher and substitute teacher in Wisconsin and Missouri.  Locally she worked for the Russellville and Eugene Public Schools and the Lutheran Parochial Schools.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Holts Summit where she served as President of the Grace LWML.  She was a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church-Stringtown where she served as the secretary for the church and helped with the Ladies Aid Group.  She also served on the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League at a local level and zone level, and was treasurer of the Capital Area Lutherans For Life until 2017 when failing health led her to resign.

Lois enjoyed scrapbooking, playing cards, volunteering with church groups, helping to run VBS, and traveling, a passion developed as a child when her parents made many vacation trips to the western USA.  She also loved acquiring owl collectibles, and adored spending time to with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Warren Brandt, Holts Summit; four children, Tamra (Dennis) Sellars, Jefferson City; Rev. Wade (Karen) Brandt, Clarinda, Iowa; Laura (Scott) Robinson, Tebbetts; Karen (Larry) Steffens-Schepker, Jefferson City; 10 grandchildren; and one brother, Gary (Kay) Purnell, New Lenox, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Raymond Purnell, Jr.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Homes in Russellville.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Church-Stringtown, with Pastor Michael Diener officiating.

Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery-Stringtown.

Memorials are suggested to Calvary Lutheran High School, Hospice Compassus, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
