Leo H. Twenter

Leo Herbert Twenter, 89, of Pilot Grove, passed away Friday, October 2, 2026, surrounded by family at Katy Manor in Pilot Grove.

He was born on October 6, 1936, in Pilot Grove, Missouri, a son of Herbert and Clara (Knedgen) Twenter. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Clear Creek and later graduated from Pilot Grove High School in 1955.

On April 15, 1967, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Clear Creek, Leo married Barbara Retherford, who survives of the home.

Leo honorably served in the Army National Guard. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and was a Third Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus.

Leo spent his life farming and especially enjoyed raising and caring for his cattle. He also spent time driving a school bus for the Pilot Grove School District, working for his brother, Pete.

Horses were a large part of Leo's life. He was a part the Pilot Grove Ranger Riders and a member since 1953 attending the Ranger Riders each year for 73 years. Over the years, Leo participated in many Ranger Riders events, including trail rides and horse shows. His love of horses and riding remained an important part of his life throughout the years.

Leo enjoyed the farming life, spending time with his cattle and horses, and the many friendships and memories he made through the Pilot Grove Ranger Riders.

Survivors include his wife Barbara of 59 years; two sons, Daniel Lee Twenter (Heidi) of Pilot Grove, Brian Joseph Twenter (Denise) of Pilot Grove; four grandsons, Zach Twenter, Lance Twenter (Kendra), Jacob Twenter, and Laben Twenter; five great-grandchildren, Everlee, Emree, Elynie, Elsie, and Blaine.

In addition to both of his parents he was preceded in death by five siblings, Bernice Beck, Elmer Twenter, Clyde Twenter, Melvin Twenter and Maurice "Pete" Twenter.

Prayers of the Rosary will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pilot Grove, with visitation to follow until 7:00 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the church with burial to follow at the St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Clear Creek. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
