Leo Paul Jones, age 81, of Stover, died Sunday night, December 9, 2007, at the Golden Age Living Center in Stover.
He was born March 28, 1926, in Glensted, a son of Herbert and Rao Richman Jones. He married Alice Wray on December 21, 1947, and she survives at their home.
He was an Army veteran, serving his country during World War II.
Mr. Jones taught math and science at Morgan County R-I high school in Stover. In 1964 he was the principal of the school at Gainsborough, Saskatchewan, Canada and retired from the Glasgow public school, where he was principal from 1965 - 1973.
Until just a few years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Jones were custom harvesters, known as "Mergie and Jake" and worked the harvest from Texas to Canada.
He was a member of the Stover United Methodist Church and the Galloway-Martens American Legion Post 343 in Stover.
In addition to his wife of almost 60 years, he is survived by two sons, Gary Leo Jones of Katy, Texas and Cary Gene Jones and wife Linda of Springfield; one sister, Eva McBride of Warrensburg, also nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Alan Wray Jones and one brother, Gene Jones.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 14, at the Stover United Methodist Church with Pastor Diane Cutler officiating. Burial, with military funeral honors, will be in the Stover Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 14, at the Stover United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Parkinson Foundation, Stover United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
