Lela Jeanettie Potter, 96, of Otterville, passed away Thursday December 28th, 2017 in the morning at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.
She leaves two sons; Raymond G. Potter and William G. Potter, all of Otterville. 9 Grand-children; 24 Great-Grandchildren; and 2 Great- Great- Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Simon Garfield and Martha Caroline Furnell Chancey; Four Siblings Harley Chancey, Raymond C. Chancey, Herman W. Chancey, and Geraldine L. (Chancey) Young; Her only husband, Samuel S. Potter, Sr. ;Three children John H. Potter, Samuel S. Potter, Jr. and Caroline E. (Potter) Ingram; and One Grandson Thomas J. Potter.
Lela was baptized May 14th, 1935 and was an active member with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a Member of American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 84 and volunteered with Parents without Partners, to name a few. Most of her career she spent taking care of others, such as a Dental Asst. for Dr. Stoner, a Nurse for Dr. Hopkins, working for the Menefee family as a nurse and Private Duty nursing for many others. Her family have fond memories of her being a member of the basement Roller Derby, the manager of the Potter cousin band, and driving instructor for Potter’s family driving school, to which people will be happy to hear she stopped a few years ago, so the roads are safe, as is the Montgomery Ward windows. She was a force to be reckoned with, she would be the first to tell you when she didn’t like something and the first to be there to support any of her children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren when they needed it.
Pallbearers will be; John Potter, Kevin Potter, Kelly Potter, Matthew Ingram, Joshua Ingram, Jeramiah Gross and Honarary Pallbearer Samuel Potter, III.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 6th, 2017 at Meisenheimer Funeral home in Otterville, with Branch President from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kevin Wilson officiating.
Burial will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Otterville.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday January 5th, at Meisenheimer Funeral home in Otterville.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude Childrens Hospital.
