Laura Marie Kirchner Brauer, 102, died October 4, 2019 at Tipton Oak Manor, Tipton, Missouri.

She was born near Otterville in Cooper County Missouri on September 1, 1917, the daughter of Roger E. Kirchner and Lena E. Gochenour Kirchner. On June 9, 1940, at the Syracuse Baptist Church, she married Herbert Halley Brauer who died October 28, 1994.

Laura has been a member of Syracuse Baptist Church since 1928. She was a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir, and was the alto in a quartet that sang together for many years. She was also very active in WMU, the women's mission group.

She was a public school teacher for 30 years, beginning in a one room school for four years before her marriage, then later teaching in elementary schools and working as a high school librarian. After retiring in 1979, she became a member of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association, the Tipton Woman's Club, the Morgan-Moniteau County Retired Teachers, and the Syracuse Friendship Club.

Laura was a graduate of Syracuse High School, Class of 1934, and enjoyed going to the annual SHS Alumni meeting each year until she was 100 years old.

She received her A.E. degree from Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar in 1936 and her B.S. in Education from Central Missouri State University in 1957. She also attended Lincoln University and the University of Missouri in Columbia for additional education and certification in Library Science.

She loved having family reunions and parties to celebrate any special occasion in her life or that of others in her family. She loved to read, and in later years when her eyesight failed, she listened to hundreds of book on tape from the Wolfner Library. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking, especially apple pies and Grandma Lena's special Cinnamon Coffee Rings

Her survivors include two sons: Stanley Brauer and wife Karen, Steven Brauer and wife Lynn; two daughters, Sandra Scherff and husband Ronald, and Joyce Boyt and husband Jim. She dearly loved her six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Phyllis Kirchner, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
